Stephen has over 20 years experience in market research. Much of this is international in nature, having worked both in Europe and the US. He has a particular interest in combining traditional research techniques with new approaches brought about by online technology and social media to provide cutting edge business solutions.
Stephen began his research career at Research International (now TNS), quickly rising up through the ranks to become a director of the London operation and later Senior Vice President in the New York subsidiary. When he returned to Europe, he joined Shell and became their Head of Research and Insight for a period of 5 years, where he was responsible for all retail and brand related research.
Stephen set up Purple in 2002, with Trevor Wilkinson and the company has quickly grown into a leading provider of customer, market and competitor research. He is an acknowledged expert in using research to address challenging business issues and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and seminars.
Up until 2006, Stephen was Chairman of the Independent Consultants Group (ICG), a leading association of small research providers. In 2011, he was appointed to the committee of the Alliance of International Market Research Institutes (AIMRI) and in 2012 he was elected to the Board of the UK Market Research Society (MRS).
Stephen is married and lives in Barnet, North London with his wife and two children.
